The Bath Film Office commitment to film crews

We will respond to your queries in a timely manner
We will be proactive in coming up with solutions to your problems
We will act as your point of contact for all Bath and North East Somerset Council services
We will keep information about your shoot confidential, unless you say otherwise
We will keep you up to date on any costs that accrue from you using Council services

In return we ask that crews

Follow the Bath Film Office Code of Practice when filming and parking in public areas and Council buildings
Review and agree to the terms and conditions when applying for a film permit

Fees

The Bath Film Office admin fees are based on size of crew and scope of filming
These fees support the running of the film office service

Drone Filming

We are here to help professional film crews capture stunning aerial views of Bath.

The flying of any drone or model aircraft in the UK is covered by Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Regulations. These regulations were comprehensively updated December 2020.
The following guidelines were created in response to the new legislation, please check this page for updates before future flights.
Drone operators need to make sure they:
- comply with CAA legislation
- have the correct landowners permission for take-off and landing
- have the appropriate control over the area where the drone will be used

If you have seen an airborne drone and believe it might pose a danger to the public, call the Police on 101.

Which category does my drone falls under?

As a general guide, the ‘open category’ covers the lower risk type flying scenarios, the ‘specific category’ covers operations that present greater risk, the certified category covers high risk operations.

Open Category

The ‘Open Category’ is broken down into further sub-categories. Each category has its own set of flight parameters.
Please refer to the Creative England matrix for more information on what you can and can’t do with a drone in the ‘Open Category’.
Please note that CAA regulations do not allow any drone being flown in the ‘Open Category’, including the A1 under 250g category, to fly over a crowd of people.

Student Filming

The Bath Film Office makes an annual presentation to students at Bath Spa University, that runs through the key issues of filming in public areas.

The current presentation (made October 2020) is available for Bath Spa students to watch online via the University.

Student drama filming requires at least 5 working days' notice.
Student factual filming requires at least 2 working days' notice

Working days are Monday to Friday.

Please note:

We never allow student filming with weapons to take place in a location we manage on behalf of the Council
Please refer to our student filming checklist (available to download below) while you are filling in the permit application, to ensure you are including all the relevant information
